Motorists hit by closure of Camelon road

Motorists face weeks of disruption while work takes place to replace a railway bridge over a busy main road.

There will be diversions in place while the new structure above the A803 between Camelon and Bonnybridge is put in place.

Network Rail had hoped to complete the project last autumn. However, it was postponed when engineers could not get enough “access time” to the railway line to complete the job.

They now plan to reschedule work from this Saturday, April 1 and it should be completed by Sunday, April 30.

Glasgow Road will be closed to traffic from Saturday, April 8 until Friday, April 21 to allow the work to go ahead.

A signposted diversion will be in place via Stirling Road and the B905 Denny Road.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “Work on the bridge is to replace the deck and parapets and can only be done safely and efficiently while the road below is closed to traffic. When complete the bridge will be more robust and will have improved resilience in the event of a vehicle striking the structure.

“The work will also prepare the bridge for future projects to upgrade track and electrify the line to deliver improved reliability and faster line speeds for rail services.”

Work will take place from 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday with overnight work from 10pm to 10am on April 1, 8 22 and 29.

Over the Easter weekend when it is expected road traffic will be quieter, there will be round-the-clock work from 8pm on Friday, April 14 until 8am on Monday, April 17.

Alison Flanagan, Network Rail project manager for the work, said, “The heavy plant and machinery that will be used during the work means that it will be noisy and some disturbance is unavoidable, particularly at night.

“We appreciate that it is also a busy road and the extended journey times created by the diversion route will cause some inconvenience. We apologise if you are effected by either noise from the work or the road closure”.
