The ice age returns to Stenhousemuir

A family has taken a shop premises full circle and re-opened it as an ice cream parlour '“ over half-a-century after it first served cones to children.

Ice Cream and Candy Creations has been open in Stenhousemuir Main Street for three weeks now and is proving popular with young and old as the summer delivers on its often forgotten promise of sunshine.

Owner Sandy Lees, who runs the shop with her university student daughter Cheryl, said: “We’ve had an amazing response from customers so far. These kind of shops have been popping up throughout the country but Stenhousemuir didn’t have anything like this and people were crying out for it.”

The property has been home to everything from a hairdressers to a newsagents over the years, but back in the 1940s and ’50s it was an ice cream parlour run by the Italian Profilios family.

The ice cream cones of those days seem a bit plain compared to the choice and customisation options available to customers at Ice Cream and Candy Creations, who can sit in or takeaway.

Sandy said: “There are over 50 flavours of ice cream available and we are constantly adding new ones. We also have a selection of hundreds of traditional sweets to add to your ice cream and there are healthy options, including fruit smoothies and more.

“We couldn’t have hoped for a better start. A really good summer is forecast and we’re here to help people cool down.”
