Over the last three years, with the backing of corporate partners including Greggs, Marks and Spencer and Boots, the national programme has been active in over 100 locations across the country to help revitalise shopping precincts and high streets.

The Falkirk Healthy High Street group, which meets on the first Tuesday of every month, has identified objectives for the year ahead including delivering a regular calendar of events to drive footfall and raising awareness of the reduction in rates for town centre vacant properties to help reduce the number of void units.

A Healthy High Street spokesman said: “Local town teams have been able to develop and implement a number of activities such as enabling access to landlords to address issues around empty and unsightly properties, helping to improve customer service and providing expert advice and resources to market and celebrate the high street.”

The group will send a newsletter to local businesses in the next few days to gather research on their issues and ideas and will roll out at a calendar of events starting later this month.

An Easter egg hunt takes place on April 15 and the annual Pirates and Princesses Parade comes to town on April 22.
