Grangemouth exhaust fitters share in £9.75 million of national funding

The Scottish Government and Transport Scotland have released a £9.75 million fund which will allow bus and coach operators to retrofit more environmentally friendly exhausts to their vehicles.

The move will not only improve air quality, it will also provide a boost for Grangemouth firm Driveline Scotland Ltd. The Powdrake Road business specialise in exhaust retrofitting and will be working hard to complete a quantity of the 594 vehicles due to be retrofitted this year.Falkirk East MSP Angus MacDonald has welcomed the move, stating: “This is fantastic news for an up and coming Grangemouth based firm so I am delighted to see a significant amount of this work going to Driveline, which is based in the Port.“Retrofitting such a large number of vehicles will help to reduce overall emissions and ensure bus operators are playing their part in improving air quality thelength and breadth of Scotland.”Driveline managing director Stewart McLean added: “This is a great opportunity for us to help Scottish operators improve their emissions and demonstrate thesuccessful Euro VI product lines that Driveline now offers to the world.”

The accredited retrofit technology helps reduce nitrogen dioxide and particulate emissions from older buses and coaches through the installation of specialistexhaust technology by accredited providers.

The retrofits carried out by Driveline and other firms will achieve the latest Euro VI standrd, which is the equivalent to emissions from a modern diesel bus.

Transport Scotland and Energy Saving Trust will also be monitoring emissions performance from the retrofitted vehicles to ensure they perform effectively overtime.
