Amodo Mio, in Manor Street, was named the best independent Italian restaurant in the UK and chef Giovanni Pia won the best short cut pasta prize at this year’s Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association awards, which took place last week in London with 500 representatives of the industry’s leading Italian food retailers and restaurants present.

Awards are certainly nothing new to the Amodo Mio team. Back in 2014 the family restaurant, run by Giovanni and his sister Carolina, won the Best Pasta category at the Scottish Italian Awards and that same year made it to the PAPA awards finals, but did not win.

They went one better this year to earn themselves not one, but two coveted PAPA awards.

Carolina said: “We were nominated by a customer and made it through after a secret diner came to Amodo Mio and gave us a good report. We would like to thank all our customers for their continued support – that’s what makes our business a success.”

It was Giovanni’s delicious Penne Walnut and Rocket Pesto creation which helped him clinch the best short cut pasta award.

The Pia family also run Bar Aldo in Alloa and the experience Carolina and Giovanni gained from being raised in the family business paved the way for the level of success Amodo Mio is now enjoying.
