Finewood aims to stay as number one

A successful Falkirk company has opened the door to a new deal with a major bank that will help it remain as Scotland's number one.

Finewood, based in Falkirk’s Almond Road, is Scotland’s biggest doors importer and supplier selling high-quality products from Indonesia, Vietnam, Spain and Portugal.

The company was formed by director Ian Thomson in 1990 with three workmates – Willie Anderson, Alan Kemp and Mark McCluskey – and they all still work together.

There are now 35 employees across Finewood and its other company, Doorworks, which does pre-assembled doors, already hung in their frames with handles, which allow builders to simply slot them into place on site.

Between them they have a turnover of around £6 million and supply 100,000 doors every year.

They have switched accounts to Allied Irish Bank (AIB) in a deal that includes working capital and overdraft facilities, backed by asset finance arrangements offering an easy way for Finewood to meet the cost of investing in the likes of new machinery.

Mr Thomson said: “We appreciate our customers and we appreciate our staff and I think these are the two things that every business needs to do and that has always been our philosophy. Our customers know that.”

Libby Clark of AIB (GB) said: “This is a company that is very tightly managed by its leaders who have a very clear vision that has allowed them to be number one in their industry.”
