Now after a year of planning the 48-year-old has finally realised his dream!

The new-look Roberto’s, nearly double the size of the original premises after the dividing wall between his shop and the one next door was knocked down, reopened last week - and the response to the new venture by his regular cafe customers has been so positive he is already glad he made the move.

Roberto said: “I suppose I was taking a bit of a gamble changing things around, but my regulars are telling me they like what’s been done and the reaction from new faces coming in to try the new menu has also been very positive.

“I decided from the outset the cafe menu would remain, so the traditional breakfast, toasties, filled rolls and baked potatoes are still available to eat-in or takeaway. But now we are offering chip suppers, pizzas and ice cream as well.

“It’s been a lot of hard work, meeting with the council people to get the proper planning permission then getting the builders in to completely rebuild the place inside to turn two shops into one, but I’ve been very pleased with the response so far, and things are getting better every day, so I’m confident it’s all been worthwhile.
