Taylors Furniture Stores has been in the same spot on Manor Street for the past century, and the family-run firm are looking forward to the future.

Owner Raymond Taylor, who runs the business with son Lawrence, prides himself on excellent customer service, as well as providing high-quality furniture and beds at affordable price.

“We are delighted to have been serving Falkirk for 100 years – and I have been in the shop for 50 of those years,” he says. “We have built up a very good reputation over those years, and we have grown the business on a foundation of personal attention.

“I am here six days a week, 52 weeks of the year, and we really try to bend over backwards to fulfil our orders.”

Founded by Raymond's grandfather Lewis in 1921, the firm has been in the family for four generations. In today’s fast-paced, digital world, it offers a refreshing level of personalised customer service – as well as a fantastic range of mattresses with same-day delivery that can match any online retailer.

The shop has three floors of beds, mattresses, and bedroom furniture and offers a wide choice, with Raymond insisting that there’s no substitute for trying before you buy.

“When it comes to a bed, you have got to try it. There are many companies where it is one-size-fits-all, but it doesn’t really work like that,” he says. “Everybody’s shape is different, and everyone wants something different from their mattress.”

The company are happy to deliver beds and mattresses from stock on the same day: “We have sold mattresses that have been delivered before the customer returns home,” Raymond adds with a smile.

And it’s that attention to detail that has helped the shop to maintain its success over the decades, despite facing challenges in the pandemic, like every other company.

“It doesn’t matter where you go: you will bump into someone I have sold a bed to,” he jokes. “We’ve had such a warm response to celebrating our 100th anniversary, we have had people popping into the shop to congratulate us since the last article was published in the Herald.”

The renewed emphasis on shopping local, and an increased appreciation of the human touch instead of anonymous corporations, mean Taylors is well-placed to look to the future, too – and don’t expect Raymond to be retiring anytime soon.

“People want a social experience when they shop; you want to chat with a friend and go for a cup of coffee together afterwards instead of just ordering ten dresses online then sending nine of them back again,” he says.

“I really enjoy what I do, and I get great satisfaction matching the product to the customer’s requirements, so I have no intentions of quitting!”
