Earl of Zetland sold to leisure group

Fears over the future of Grangemouth's Earl of Zetland pub seem to have been laid to rest as a buyer has stepped in to purchase the premises.

The pub, which opened in 2007 in the former Charring Cross and West Parish Church, was one of the premises put on the market by owners JD Wetherspoon last November, shortly after the company announced a drop in profits.

Although it has continued to trade, its future was uncertain for both staff and regular customers.

Now Hawthorn Leisure has reportedly bought the Earl of Zetland and it is believed the firm are going to keep the premises open as a public house.

Staff at the pub were due to have meetings with the new owners in the near future.

JD Wetherspoon stated it would not make any comment on the matter until it had talked to staff members.

Hawthorn Leisure had not responded as The Falkirk Herald went to press.
