Marks and Spencer confirms expansion at Falkirk retail park
M&S at the Central Retail Park in Falkirk is expanding to create a ‘new and improved’ foodhall which will be in use later this year.
The foodhall, currently located in Unit 11 of Scotia Place on Edgington Way, will take over the former Tapi Carpets & Floors’ outlet next door.
The move will see M&S expand by some 70% with the additional space having a focus solely on food.
The store, which opened in September 2016 as Falkirk’s only M&S foodhall, will remain open throughout as work gets underway.
An exact date for when the development will be complete has not yet been given, but bosses have promised it will be sometime later this year.
The expanded foodhall hopes to offer a wide variety of M&S products as well as cater for its growing Falkirk customer community.
Scott Munro, regional manager said: “We are excited to be expanding our popular M&S foodhall within the Central Retail Park.
"Customers will get to experience our new and improved store later this year.
"In the meantime our store will remain open and serve customers as normal during the extension works.”
Tapi Carpets moved into a unit to the front of the Retail Park next to Halfords, taking over from the former Carpet Right shop just before Christmas last year.
An employee from Tapi Carpets said: “The M&S and Tapi Carpets move has been in the pipeline for over a year.
"It benefits both parties - we’ve moved to a much bigger store and M&S is able to expand, so it was a win win for both.”
"M&S is so busy at the unit it is in so it just makes total sense.”
"It’s not a particularly big unit for us as part of it was a warehouse and then the sales floor, but it was a good move for them.”
Half of the staff at Tapi Carpets are currently furloughed with the store currently shut due to the pandemic, but employees are using their new larger base to process orders, bring in deliveries and make sure phone lines are manned.
The employee added: “We are ticking over, and having this space has been very helpful.”
