Falkirk area-based solicitor hopes new law firm will do late dad proud

A solicitor who has set up her own Falkirk district-based law firm hopes to follow in her late father’s footsteps by making a success out of her enterprise.

Ashleigh Morton opened Morton Brody Law at the beginning of November – just a few months on from the death of her dad, David (80), who ran demolition business David Morton (Larbert) Ltd.

The Redding resident says she is using her dad’s passing as inspiration to press ahead with the next chapter of her career and do him and the rest of her family proud.

She said: “My dad died in August and that spurred me on.

Ms Morton has gained experience at different firms since she began practising law eight years ago.

A former employee of Russel and Aitken in Falkirk, she has also worked in Fife and is now offering her services as a solicitor who specialises in family law, employment, adoption, children’s referrals, contact disputes, residence and matrimonial law.

Ms Morton, who is working from home in line with Law Society of Scotland guidelines, also supports clients with debt recovery and housing issues.

She said: “Things have been good. I’ve got some new clients and existing clients.

“It’s just me! I was born and raised in Falkirk and I come from a background of family businesses.

“I worked in Russel and Aitken in Falkirk six-and-a-half years ago and I then worked in Dunfermline.

“I specialise in family law, divorce and separation and children’s reporter cases.

“I also cover the usual contract and residence cases, disputes over custody with children and grandchildren, sibling contact and debt recovery.

“I don’t have premises because, with the coronavirus, the Law Society of Scotland has advised against it at the moment.

“I want to expand in the future, given my background. I’m looking to help people with all of their legal concerns.”

Appointments with Morton Brody Law can be made remotely via telephone, FaceTime and Zoom.

The business’ opening hours are: Monday to Wednesday (9am-6pm); Thursday (9am-8pm); Friday (9am-6pm); and Saturday (9am-noon).
