East Falkirk MP urges UK Government to support self-employed and freelancers through coronavirus pandemic

A Falkirk district politician is calling on the UK Government to do more to support self-employed and freelance workers who have received no financial help during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Martyn Day, MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk, received a response from the UK Treasury acknowledging the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has not supported everyone.

However, he insists it falls short of remedying the situation.

Mr Day, an ExcludedUK All-Party Parliamentary Group member has joined colleagues in pressing the UK Government for comprehensive support.

Mr Day said: “I have been continuously urging the Chancellor to support those who do not fall within the groups already supported – either by widening the scope of existing schemes to include them or put in place a separate grant scheme for those who don’t fit any of the criteria already set.

“The 3 million people who have been excluded don't want to hear how the Chancellor has supported other people, but what he will do for them.”
