Closure-threatened Falkirk Debenhams store issues deadline for redeeming gift cards and vouchers

Falkirk district shoppers are being urged to redeem Debenhams gift cards, e-cards and vouchers before they are no longer accepted in-store or online.

News broke at the start of this month that Falkirk’s Debenhams branch could be about to shut for good.

The Howgate shopping centre, which houses the store, today (Friday) posted on Facebook to let customers know Debenhams will not accept gift cards, e-cards or vouchers from midnight this Sunday.

The Falkirk premises is just one of 124 branches throughout the UK facing a bleak future.

Debenhams went into administration for a second time in April.

Its hopes or survival rested on sole bidder, JD Sports, however, the firm has now pulled out.

Administrators are set to start a wind-down of its UK operation but will continue to seek offers for all or parts of the business.

The chain is continuing to trade in-store and online to clear its current and contracted stocks.

However, it was stated at the conclusion of this process, if no alternative offers have been received, all UK operations – including Falkirk – will close.

Administrators are now set to start a wind-down of its UK operation, but state they will continue to seek offers for all or parts of the business, and the chain will continue to trade through its UK stores and online to clear its current and contracted stocks.

There was optimism in July when Debenhams re-opened its Falkirk store post-lockdown.

At the time Susan Reid, retail director, said: “We are delighted to welcome back our Scottish customers as we reopen the final group of stores in Scotland.”
