Camelon Community Hub sets up charity shop to support Women's Aid

Camelon Community Hub (CCH) has distributed more than 10,000 free school meals to pupils since the onset of coronavirus.

Its volunteers have also been gathering and handing out emergency food parcels to those in need during this time.

The hub has now taken over what was previously the Hidden Treasures store in Main Street, Bainsford where its team will, as of next Tuesday, open for business as a charity shop to support victims of domestic abuse through Women’s Aid.

Rebranded as Hidden Gems, the shop will be open six days a week.

The same group of volunteers which has transformed CCH into the successful organisation it has become are now looking forward to welcoming their first customers next week.

Gary Clark, CCH director, said: “We’re looking to keep the work we’ve done already for the Women’s Aid going through the shop.

“We’re also looking to support the local area where the shop is. It was a busy shop so we’re trying to take that over and continue the good work that’s been done already.

“We will give a percentage of the takings to local groups as well as having things for the Women’s Aid like clothing parcels. All donations will be welcome, just the same as what we’re doing at the hub.

“We want to be able to continue the good work we’ve been doing from another premises so we aren’t trying to run everything out the hub.”

Gary added: “It’ll be a soft opening from 10am until 2pm. When we get people down there we’ll be able to say when the busy times are.

“We’ll be open six days, from 10am until 4pm on a Saturday, and we’ll be closed on the Sunday.

“The people of Camelon and the surrounding areas deserve it because they have been just as much of a help to us as we have been to them.”
