BHS move puts more Falkirk jobs under threat

More jobs are at risk in Falkirk with high street retailer BHS going into administration.

A rescue deal to save the company failed over the weekend and the 11,000 employees have been told of the situation and that their wages will be paid this month.

It’s unclear how many jobs will go in Falkirk if a new buyer is not found, but the major stumbling block is understood to be a pension deficit of £571 million.

The news is the latest jobs blow to hit Falkirk within a week following the announcement by Carron Phoenix that it plans to close its operation and up sticks to Slovakia cutting around 200 jobs.

Meetings are planned this week with Falkirk Council, Scottish Government and union representatives to discuss proposals to save the plant from closing.
