Barber shops and hairdressers reopen in Falkirk district

Almost four months after they were forced to close due to the pandemic, hairdressers and barbers are opening their doors again

With hairdressers and barber shops across the district able to welcome customers back from today, one Laurieston barber was wasting no time in getting started this morning.

Ross Carter Barber Shop in Mary Street opened at midnight for its first cut of the day.

First in the chair for Ross as he reopened was Josh Birsch, a geography teacher.

Salons and barber shops have been closed across the country since March and unsurprisingly now they are permitted to reopen they are facing high demand for their services.

In a post on the shop’s Facebook page the 41-year-old barber said: “We are delighted to be re-opening after this horrible time we have all had to experience.

"A massive thank you to all who have booked and registered for our new online booking system. We are overwhelmed with the response.

"We are definitely going to have an extremely busy few weeks/months ahead.”

But a trip to get your hair cut will look a little different to how things were pre-lockdown.

New safety measures have been put in place by hairdressers and barbers to ensure they can keep themselves and all their customers safe.

Among the steps taken are:

Businesses will be working by appointment only with clients expected to wear a face mask.

Staff will be wearing personal protective equipment.

All positions will be cleaned thoroughly after each client.

People will be asked to use hand sanitiser that’s provided and to follow social distancing guidance while in the shop.
