Travis and Chic ready to Party at the Palace

Organisers have pulled off a real coup as one of Scotland’s finest exports will be joined at the event by a global icon at the two-day fun-packed festival.

Travis are headlining on Saturday, August 8 in a rare gig on home soil, while superstar Nile Rodgers of Chic will get the place dancing with delight the following day on Sunday, August 9.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Linlithgow Palace, this year’s spectacular will be another highlight in Scotland’s live music calendar.

Travis, one of the UK’s best-known bands, return for their first Scottish show since December 2013.

With two No.1 albums, five Top Ten singles, two Brit Awards and more than eight million record sales, Travis have a catalogue of songs which have resonated throughout households for more than 15 years, including hits such as ‘Turn’, and ‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me?’.

Nile Rodgers enjoyed worldwide success in the 70s and 80s with Chic, whose sounds filled the dancefloors across the globe.

He recently burst back on to the scene after beating cancer and his collaborations with Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams, Mark Ronson and many more are now floor fillers all over the world.

The timing couldn’t be better for Nile as 2015 brings the long-awaited release of his first studio album in 23 years. The new CHIC album will also feature a few stellar collaborations.

Nile said: “We are all thrilled to be coming back to Scotland this summer. I’ve played some great venues around the world in my time but performing in such a magnificent setting will be really special.

“Scottish audiences are always pretty lively too so it’s bound to be a magical night”.

John Richardson, producer at PATP, added: “It’s incredible that we have managed to attract a truly global megastar like Nile to come to Linlithgow. The town won’t know what’s hit it!

“You only have to look at his back catalogue of hits from Chic to David Bowie, Duran Duran to Daft Punk to appreciate just what a show this is going to be.

“We’re also excited for the return of Travis to Scotland. It’ll be their only Scottish date this summer and with a new album on the way, this will be a bit of a homecoming gig for them. They have a bucketful of anthems and we know that they’ll have our crowd singing along all night.”

In defiance of their headliners’ big hit ‘‘Why Does It Always Rain On Me’’ organisers of this year’s event have promised blue skies.

And, if it rains, you’ll be able to buy next year’s ticket for half price.

Event organiser Peter Ferguson said: “It makes perfect sense to us - although we know some people might think we’re joking, but we’re not!

“We guarantee that it won’t rain on the weekend of August 8 and 9 at Linlithgow Palace. And of course we expect endless sunshine!

“If by any chance it does rain, then we’ll guarantee a 50 per cent reduction on tickets for next year. We’ve told our partners at Lidl to bring in extra supplies of Factor 50 to stop us from burning and the team from McEwan’s will be on site to help keep us cool and hydrated. Good times deserve good weather.”
