It's been an amazing three years for alternative rock band Bear's Den.

From an Ivor Novello Award nod, a cross-country American tour, and the departure of guitarist Joey Haynes, it’s safe to say it has been a rollercoaster ride for Andrew Davie and Kevin Jones.

“You get extreme highs and lows being in a band,” Andrew said. “We spent a lot of time on the road and sometimes it’s hard to find the time to write but you need these experiences in order to do so.”

And it is how these experiences – both the ups and the downs – have affected them which form their much-anticipated second album, Red Earth and Pouring Rain.

“We’re really excited about the album coming out,” Andrew continued. “It’s something that we are really proud of. This album gave us a chance to take stock and reflect on how far we’ve come. At the same time, it encouraged us to be more brave musically.

“I read somewhere that Bruce Springsteen once said: ‘More than anything else, I wanted to be great’. I thought that was really inspiring. I want us to do something significant, which stands the test of time, and not be embarrassed by aiming for that.”

“I think it’s important to confront stuff which is difficult,” says the singer.

“I want to be honest about life. There are so many things about it which are sad and incredibly difficult. Certain triggers or memories can come back and haunt you, and ultimately shape you and the decisions you make later on.”

The duo will be heading out on a short UK tour this autumn which arrives at Glasgow’s 02 ABC on November 3.

“I bloody love Glasgow!” Andrew laughed. “My family are from Glasgow and I always remember trips up there and holidays which were always fantastic.”

‘Red Earth and Pouring Rain’ is out now.
