Former Falkirk Fury star Fraser Malcolm has been named as one of British Basketball League’s most improved players this campaign after impressing for his professional side, Caledonia Gladiators, who finished the championship season in third spot.

His consistent showings for the East Kilbride-based side saw him named third in the BBL Molten Most Improved Player award list – which is voted for by a mix of fellow professionals, head coaches and members of the media.

Ex-Fury ace Malcolm received votes from seven of the 21 judges, who could vote with a first, second and third choice. Four voters picked the Gladiators star as their top pick, with two placing him as runner-up and one judge voting him third.

Overall this saw Falkirk native Fraser placed as the third pick in MIP award rankings, which is an outstanding achievement given the league still sees around 60 per cent of its playing roster go to American players.

Fraser's three-point shooting consistency was a key for judges in the voting - averaging an excellent 41.7 per cent for the season.

An aggressive rebounder and team player, he was one of four Gladiators who played the most games in the season with 36 outings, and he scored over 200 points in the Scottish club's campaign.

Gladiators’ play-off campaign ended at the quarter-final stage last month after they lost out over two legs against Newcastle Eagles.

Falkirk Fury head coach John Bunyan praised Malcolm's season, commenting: “Fraser, while continuing to be a team player, has embraced the need to execute when the opportunity is right, involve his team-mates but above all give 100 per cent at both ends of the floor.

"His energy and effort is always unquestionable and we at Fury are pleased to have been a key part of his development through our under-14, under-16 and under-18 age group teams.

"This is a well deserved recognition for the campaign that he has had, and it makes it even more special when you consider that those who voted are the head coaches, captains and media members of the league itself.”
