Celtic rocker Cal shares a trait with Baywatch star David Hasselhoff - he is big in Germany.
Cal, from Bonnybridge, has topped the Celtic Worldwide Music Charts run by German radio station SchottenRadio with ‘Such is Love’.
The track, from his album ‘Turning the Tide’ has been number one at the chart which combines internet votes with radio airplay for over a week - ahead of established Celtic acts including Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Wolfstone.
Cal, full name Michael Callaghan, has managed to reach the top of the prestigious charts while juggling a full time job as a music teacher at HMP Addiewell in West
‘Such is Love’ is a departure from his other material, which is often compared to Runrig, and is a love song with a rock edge. Although the track was the stand out on the album for Cal, he is overwhelmed with how popular it has proved to be.
Manager Diane Henderson said Cal was the hardest working musician she had ever come across.
She added: “The song is getting an incredible amount of airplay and sales, particularly in countries like Germany, Holland and Norway where there is a big Celtic rock scene.
“This album is very different to the previous material Cal has released and so we are over the moon it is being received so well.
“His older material is very traditional Celtic folk music but the new album has some really modern songs that combine rock elements with the traditional Scottish music.
“I think Cal is really coming into his own and every track on the album is fantastic, there are no fillers - just great Celtic folk songs.”
Cal is now working on his next album and plans a tour of Scotland and Europe in the New Year.
‘Turning the Tide’ and the single ‘Such is Love’ is available from iTunes, HMV in the Howgate shopping centre and from www.calmusic.co.uk.
