Falkirk district pipers tune up for World Championship

Musicians from across the Falkirk district are fine tuning their instruments ahead of the most prestigious competition of the piping season.

The Denny, Camelon and Wallacestone bands will join more than 200 others in 
taking part in the 2015 World Pipe Band Championships on August 14 and 15.

The event, known to 
pipers as the Worlds, will take place as usual at 
Glasgow Green.

In total 15 nations are 
expected to be represented, with bands from Austria and Malaysia taking part for the first time.

More than 8000 pipers and drummers are expected to take part, with highlights being broadcast on BBC1 
after the event.

Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association chief executive Ian Embelton said: “The huge entry couple with unprecedented overseas 
interest is building even greater anticipation for this year’s championships.

“It is a truly unique event featuring hundreds of 
performances from the best bands in the world challenging for the ultimate prize in piping.”
