He’s still just a teenager, but pianist Yuanfang Yang already has a string of prestigious awards to his name and has been hailed as ‘a giant of the keyboard’.
Having won prizes, both in the UK and internationally, the acclaimed young pianist is now bringing his prodigious talent to Falkirk.
Classic Music Live! Falkirk is thrilled that such a prodigy will be performing in the town hall in its winter series of concerts.
Yuanfan began learning piano aged just six. By the age of eight, he had passed the Grade 8 level with distinction.
By 10, Yuanfan had achieved a Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (DipABRSM). His prodigious talent has continued to flourish and he has a string of prizes won in national and international competitions to his name.
In November 2014, he triumphed at the 4th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Weimar, Germany, where he was awarded 1st Prize, as well as the Special Prize for Best Interpretation of a Classical Sonata, the Special Prize for Best Interpretation of Works by Liszt, the Special Prize for Best Composition and Improvisation, the Junior Jury Prize, and the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) Prize for Most Outstanding Contestant. He also won the first prizes in the Keyboard Category of BBC Young Musician 2012.
Yuanfan has performed concertos by Beethoven, Chopin, Gershwin, Grieg, Mozart, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky with leading orchestras.
Last year, his solo eight-night tour of Scotland was acclaimed by the press and audiences, with many standing ovations. November 2014 saw Yuanfan tour China, while he also found time to premiere his new Piano Concerto, ‘The Wilderness’.
With a programme that includes Bach, Schubert, Beethoven and Bartok, as well as his own composition ‘Waves’, his town hall gig is one that is not to be missed.
Yuanfan Yang plays Falkirk Town Hall on Friday, Friday February 20, at 7.30p.m. Tickets at the door or from The Steeple Box Office on (01324) 506850.
