An Elvis tribute artist has become the first Scotsman to qualify for the Ultimate Elvis Championship in Memphis.

Johnny Lee Memphis, aka Jon Fleming, competed against 24 other hopefuls from around the world and finished sixth overall.

He said: “I am very proud to have reached the finals. Over the last few years I began to wonder if it was ever going to happen.”

The finals were always on the mind of the 40 year old singer as he has come second in the qualifiers repeatedly, however this year in British Columbia in Canada, he finally reached the finals and achieved his impossible dream. The finals took place during Elvis Week from August 10-16, marking the 38th anniversary of Elvis leaving the building, and Jon was competing against wannabe-Kings from as far as Australia, Japan and Brazil.

Jon planned to make the top ten and was extremely happy to finish sixth. He said: “I’ll be back next year having gained more knowledge of what to expect and what the judges are looking for.”

Fans of the King can see Johnny Lee at Falkirk Town Hall on Saturday, August 5. Contact 01324 506850 for ticket information.
