There was action at last for Stenhousemuir’s cricketers as the weather allowed matches to take place.
After all the recent cancellations, Stenhousemuir were back in action last week with three games in four days. On Wednesday they lost to Uddingston at Bothwell Castle Policies in the West League Cup, on Thursday they defeated Greenock at Glenpark in the Murgatroyd Rowan Cup and on Saturday they won their opening CSL West Division One match against Weir’s at the Tryst.
The match against Weir’s was switched to the Tryst as Albert Park is unfit for 1st XI cricket. The game will be remembered for a remarkable innings by Rushdi Jappie. Batting first Stenhousemuir had reached a far from promising 146 for seven in 38 overs when Ian McDonald joined Jappie. In the next 12 overs they added 115 runs in an unbroken eighth wicket partnership. Jappie scored 133 not out with eight sixes and five fours. McDonald scored only seven not out but it was a valuable contribution nevertheless in backing up Jappie and feeding him the strike.Earlier Tim Doonan had scored 31, Craig Black and Yasser Arfat 14 and Amir Shahzad, 11 261 for seven proved altogether too much for Weir’s and they were bowled out for 112. Yasser Arfat took four wickets, Nick Lister three, Rushdi Jappie two and Ian McDonald one.
In the West League Cup, Uddingston made 152 for five with three wickets for Amir Shahzad and two for Shahzad Rafiq.’Muir fell four short of this total on 148 for four. Tim Doonan made 67, Shahzad Rafiq 35 and Amir Shahzad 24.
At Greenock, Stenhousemuir made 113 for six. Greenock were bowled out for 85. Yasser Arfat took three wickets, Gary Halcrow and Shahzad Rafiq two each and Amir Shahzad one.
The 2nd XI lost to Weir’s at Albert Park. They made 185 for eight with Peter moses making 82, Alan Reed 25, Iain Philip 20 and Stuart Williamson 18. Weir’s replied with 186 for six. Aaron Williamson took three wickets ans Stuart Gardner, Peter Moses and Waqas Haleem one each.
Tonight Ferguslie are hosting the Muir in the Murgatroyd Cup and it’s more Paisley opposition on Saturday when Kelburne visit Tryst in a first XI match, and the reverse ficture takes place for the seconds.
On Sunday, West of Scotland visit the Tryst before next week’s road trip to Drumpellier in the League Cup.
