Silky Shire’s bygone cine show

Long-lost cine films of East Stirlingshire in the 1960s will form the centrepiece of a special fundraising dinner for the club next month.

The footage came to light when author Tom Scott started researching a book on the Shire.

In the course of interviews with some of the major personalities involved with the club at the time he was given access to a treasure trove of archive material, which included the colour films.

Now some of the footage will be aired publicly for the first time in more than 40 years at a special event at the Inchyra Grange Hotel on Friday, September 16.

“A few people have been shown the films in private and have been amazed at the footage,” said club secretary, Tadek Kopszywa.

“It really is unique and will be of interest not just to Shire fans but also to anyone with an interest in the history of Falkirk.

“The intention is to put the films on a DVD which, hopefully, will go on sale but that will require quite a lot of work yet. Everyone involved with the club is also eagerly awaiting the publication of Tom’s book.”
