Falkirk rugby club’s colours are blue, yellow and red, but this weekend they will certainly be green.

The Sunnysiders are having a large-scale environmental weekend when more than 6000 plants, trees bushes and shrubs will be placed on the Sunnyside grounds to create a ‘wildlife’ corridor.

Club president Matt Dodd explained: “We are endeavouring to plant a wildlife hedge around the perimeter of our grounds this weekend involving our mini, junior and adult sections all doing the planting.

“It is being done with help from the Falkirk Environmental Trust who have awarded us a small grant to establish a native species hedge along our perimeter.

“We are hoping the hedge will help provide additional public amenity to the numerous joggers and dog walkers who use the area as well as clearly defining the area of our pitches. In planting the hedge we are hoping to create a wildlife corridor linking together two existing areas of wooded area too.”
