Junior rugby at Falkirk RFC has enjoyed a successful 2012-13 season.

The teams who competed in the Caledonia (Midlands) Leagues have had particularly good campaigns at the club’s ground at Cala Park, Sunnyside. in Camelon

The junior section at Falkirk RFC now boasts more than 200 players from P3 – and under – to U18, all playing in teams at their own age group.

However, Falkirk will not rest on their laurels and are still actively recruiting players to the club and adding to the successes of the season.

The under-15s found themselves in a very strong league with no easy games, but stuck in well and improved throughout the season.

The highlight of the season being their win against our ‘bigger’ near neighbours Stirling County, a first against Stirling, but surely not the last.

At under-16s level there was even greater success, with the team winning their league at a canter and making it to the finals of the Caledonia Cup.

They lost out in the final to a strong Howe of Fife side, but the highlight of their season was their win over a very big side from Moray in the cup semi final.

That mature display of rugby showed how much potential this team have.

The U18’s also won their respective league and made it to the final of the Caledonia Plate.

This team found it difficult to get competitive fixtures close to home and twice found themselves travelling to Aberdeen for games this season.

Falkirk hopes to join a national league next season, which will push these players to attain a higher level before they make the transition to senior rugby.

While these three teams can be measured by their successes in their league and cup competitions, the rest of the Falkirk RFC Juniors have been equally successful.

The Primary 5 team is unbeaten this season and the U14s had a 75 per cent win rate, racking up a huge number of tries in the process.

If you fancy giving rugby a go, contact the club and you will be made very welcome.

Training for the juniors is normally on a Wednesday night from 7 p.m. till 8.30 p.m. with match days being a Saturday for U18s and Sundays for everyone else.
