There was disappointment for Grangemouth Stags when they went down 19-14 to Oban in the RBS Bowl final at Murrayfield this afternoon.
Despite taking an early lead they failed to hold on to the advantage, much to the dismay of their army of very loyal and noisy supporters.
Stags took an early lead with a David Jamieson try after just three minutes which was calmly converted by Craig Sangster.
However, four minutes later it was all square when Oban’s Struan Smith scored his sides first try of the afternoon and Craig Wright converted.
On the 11-minute mark Stags were back in front and again it was Sangster who was on the score sheet when he converted his try to make it 14-7 for the Grangemouth side.
But again Oban hit back quickly when three minutes later an Andrew McDougall try was converted by Allan Wright.
Then five minutes from the break Oban took the lead for the first time through a Jamie McMillan try which his side failed to convert.
The second half had plenty excitement with both sides having chances but despite Stags’ valiant efforts they couldn’t get the points needed to win them the match leaving Oban to eventually lift the silverware.
