Rain can’t stop play at Stenhousemuir’s Tryst

Rain once again curtailed the cricket programme last Saturday. Stenhousemuir’s league fixture against Ferguslie at Meikleriggs was off and the corresponding match between the 2nd XI’s was abandoned at tea.

Stenhousemuir did manage to play at the Tryst on Sunday when they defeated Renfrew by 59 runs in the CSL40 competition and made 228 for five off their 40 overs with Tim Doonan making his maiden century. He reached 107 before being caught on the boundary. Rushdi Jappie made 51 not out and after their unbroken century partnership two weeks ago, he and Ian McDonald had an unbroken 50 for the sixth wicket. This time McDonald made six not out and he has only been dismissed once this season, Amir Shahzad made 30.

Renfrew were bowled out for 169. Yasser Arfat and Jappie each took three wickets, Amir Shahzad two and young Stuart Gardner took his first two wickets in first XI cricket.

On Saturday 2nd Ferguslie made 164 for 7 before the match was abandoned. Stuart Gardner took three wickets, Ben Kelly two and Chris Dyer, skippering the side, and Craig McIntosh one each.

In midweek, ‘Muir lost to West of Scotland in the West League Cup. Stenhousemuir made 103 for six, with Tim Doonan scoring 37 and Ian McDonald 18 not out. West replied with 104 for seven. Yasser Arfat took two wickets, and Bobby Angus, Amir Shahzad and Gary Halcrow one each.

On Saturday, Stenhousemuir are away to Greenock with the corresponding 2nd XI fixture at the Tryst. On Sunday, ‘Muir are away to Poloc in the West Sunday League
