Sporting stars supplement now online

Olympic swimmer Bobby McGregor topped our poll

Olympic swimmer Bobby McGregor topped our poll

From Olympic swimming stars to Scottish footballing legends, marathon winners to cricketing all-rounders, they’re all included in The Falkirk Herald’s 28-page souvenir supplement now vailable to view online.

The free pull-out included in the paper told the story of the men and women that have found fame through their sporting prowess.

Many of those included were born and raised in the district - but just as many hail from much further afield, but have played their way into our hearts as members of local teams.

Some reached their peak in the pre-war era when sport was still mostly an amateur concern, when the pursuit of glory had to be balanced with working a full-time job.

Then there’s the full-time stars of today, who work to increase their natural talent with the latest cutting-edge training technologies.

There’s the story of the Falkirk Flyer, who smashed the world freestyle record on no less than five occasions, and the footballer who held the world transfer record for more than ten years.

But there’s also tributes to some of the men and women who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that thousands of youngsters had the opportunity to enjoy sport on a local level.

It’s all included in The Falkirk Herald’s FH 100 sport pull-out. Make sure you get your copy today.
