Warriors appoint Corrigan as new manager
Stenhousemuir have named defender Martyn Corrigan as the new club manager.
Corrigan (34) was sidelined with a ruptured achilles last season and but took interim charge of the Warriors with Kevin McGoldrick following the resignation of Davie Irons.
The Ochilview board met on Monday night, but it wasn’t until after Tuesday night’s disappointing friendly defeat to Annan that the boss was informed of the decision.
Corrigan’s application came top of 17 applicants for the vacancy, and he said he was delighted to be approached.
“The board asked me if I would be interested and I was absolutely delighted. I am really looking forward to the job. I have played under a lot of good managers throughout my playing career, and learned a lot from them. I intend to take a little bit experience from each of them.
“Davie Irons instilled a brand of football at Stenhousemuir and I intend to carry that on - getting the ball down and playing football.”
Irons left Ochilview last week and was yesterday reported to have joined Carlisle United as club scout.
Irons’ former assistant Kevin McGoldrick’s position was unclear as The Falkirk Herald went to press last night.
But, just hours into the job, Corrigan was clear on his aims for the new season.
“I want fans to leave Ochilview thinking they enjoyed the match - there is no better feeling for a supporter.
“We have assembled a strong squad at the club - one I am happy with.”
However, Corrigan’s injury means he won’t be playing in the foreseeable future and solely focussed on his new role.
“We have two excellent centre-backs in Scott Buist and Ross McMillan.
“I am just back jogging after the injury so will see how the rehab goes, but with those two in defence, if I was to get back fit and return to playing, it would only be as cover.”
