Sean Dickson says the Warriors are looking up rather than down
Stenhousemuir boss Davie Irons packed his team with strikers against Cowdenbeath - but only one of them was used in a traditional attacking sense.
A spate of injuries and suspensions meant that the Warriors had to play several players out of position which left Kenny Deuchar to play a lone striker.
But the patch-up worked with the Ochilview men returning from Fife with a valuable point as they look to cement their position in the Second Division play-offs.
This Saturday it’s the turn of Albion Rovers to visit Ochilview, with Stenny looking to avenge their defeat to the league basement boys earlier this month.
Midfielder Paul McHale told Heraldsport that the Warriors were regaining their form at exactly the right time.
“Getting a point away to the league leaders was a great achievement considering the number of players we were missing,” he said.
“The gaffer said he was particularly pleased that we managed to keep a clean sheet. Cowdenbeath put us under real pressure but we managed to hold firm.”
Stenny now sit in fourth place - three points ahead of East Fife, who they play on March 30.
But McHale insists that no one at Ochilview is looking over their shoulders just yet.
“East Fife play Brechin this weekend, whilst we’re at home to Albion. Providing we can win, we could potentially widen the gap between ourselves and our challengers for the play-off places.
“We could even find ourselves just a point off third place, with Dumbarton playing Cowdenbeath and there’s a real belief we can achieve a play-off place.
“It’s in our own hands. If we do it, we’ll have achieved the target we set for ourselves at the beginning of the season.”
Willie Lyle is fit for Saturday’s game against Albion, having recovered from a knock he picked up against Cowdenbeath.
And Sean Dickson insists with the other teams taking points off each other they’re keen to capitalise.
“We’re looking upwards, but it’s a tight league especially the way the fixtures fall this weekend.
“We’re only 15 away from the bottom too and all the teams will be taking points from each other.
“Training was buzzing and the boys are up for Saturday.”
