Falkirk will play Montrose in the first round of the Scottish League Cup on Saturday, August 2.

The draw for the competition, which has failed to attract a corporate sponsor, was made yesterday at Hampden Park.

Peter Houston’s side will fancy their chances of progressing to round two, when Premiership sides enter the tournament, as perennial League Two strugglers Montrose last recorded a victory against the Bairns in 1976.

Meanwhile, Stenhousemuir were drawn to play League One rivals Airdrie away and East Stirlingshire will host Ayr United.
