Season over for Fury’s Roni

Basketball big man Roni Gordon’s knee injury is still too severe for proper diagnosis.
The swelling around the 6’10” Clark Eriksson Fury centre’s left knee is still stopping doctors from assessing the ligament damage, five days on from him collapsing against his former team Edinburgh Kings.
Gordon went down in agony just two minutes into Fury’s victory last Friday which saw the Falkirk side maintain their unbeaten league campaign and go clear at the top of the table.
But they did it without the 30-year-old who was carried out of the Mariner Centre by paramedics.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever been injured really,” he told The Falkirk Herald this week. “Doctors say I might be lucky and just have severely strained the ligaments – but they can’t see enough without an MRI and the knee is too swollen at the moment.”
He has certainly damaged the nerves down one side of his leg and and has potentially damaged his meniscus with further diagnosis on his anterior cruciate ligament needed.
“The pain has eased, but that’s maybe just the painkillers working.
“All I remember is going up for a rebound to Scott Russell’s lay-up then hitting the floor – it was a complete accident.
“But the pain was incredible.
The injury has come at a difficult time for Gordon, who was in good form going into the game against his former club, the Edinburgh Kings.
“I played well against Troon the week before and it’s just strange that the injury – my first real injury – came against the team I grew up with.
“I’ve played all over since my time with Kings – at college in Ohio in America, as a pro in Italy and with the Scottish Rocks – but my injury has come against my old club.
“The team were doing well too – I was pleased to hear they got a great result after I’d gone. They’ll rely a lot on Stu McKay now, but once I’m a bit more able, I’ll get along to games.
“But it’s not just basketball that the timing isn’t the best. I’m a security guard and can’t work now in the run-up to Christmas. It’s not the best, but the messages on Fury’s facebook site have been really appreciated – the fans have been great.
“I am very much restricted to what I’m able to do – and that’s not much.
“I can’t work and struggle to get in the car because I must keep it straight but I’ve been told to keep walking on it as best I can – needless to say I won’t be travelling to see the team play in the cup in Aberdeen this weekend!”
The Clark Eriksson sponsored club won 95-72 to go clear at the top of the Senior Mens’ National League.
