Clark Eriksson Fury’s six Scottish National League teams all start with away fixtures, albeit to different sides of the country.
The three men’s teams at senior, junior and cadet all play in Glasgow and the three women’s teams – senior, junior and cadette all play in Edinburgh.
The men’s team open their title campaign against Glasgow Storm at 1.30pm at Maryhill Sport Centre., having been moved from their Scotstoun home of many years for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Storm did not have the impact their experienced basketball coach – Ian McLean - had probably hoped for last season, although they did show in patches that they could be formidable opposition.
Fury will expect an opening win but will not be complacent said headcoach John Bunyan: “Glasgow Storm always have the potential to surprise what are considered the top three or four teams.
“We have always approached their matches in the same way as we would the Kings or St.Mirren and I believe our training so far has shown we can open up strongly,” he told The Falkirk Herald.
The junior and cadet men both play Glasgow Rens where both Fury teams will start as favorites. Rens tight court can at times be difficult to play on but with balanced squads Fury should take these opening matches.
On the women’s side all three teams play Edinburgh Kool Kats. Fury women will be without the club headcoach for at least the first half because of the clash in senior games.
The summer appointment of former Fury star Mathew Hoffman to Senior Womans Assistant Coach will see Hoffman straight in at the deep end in the capital. Hoffman is an experienced coach and Jen Gallacher is back as team captain with newly-wed Kim Bunyan thrust back into the action a week after her wedding.
With at least one new addition to the team in guard Debs Primrose, Fury will play an uptempo game with their young team whose average age is just 20.
The junior and cadette woman also play the Kats with the fancied Fury cadette team looking to start their expected title challenge with a road win.
Fury junior womans side for the second season in a row will hinge on player injury issues.
