Bairns play out stalemate with table-topping Jags

Darren Dods went close for Falkirk

Darren Dods went close for Falkirk

Falkirk fought out a bore draw with Partick Thistle while Stenhousemuir and Shire went down to heavy defeats.

It was a sixth game undefeated for Falkirk who named an unchanged team from he one that defeated bottom of the table Dumbarton 2-0 last week.

However, facing top of the league Thistle and redressing a 3-1 reverse on the opening day was not to be as both teams matched each other in a tactical chess match.

Falkirk had most of the possession first half but only a David Weatherston shot booted off the line by Aaron Muirhead to show for it.

The Bairns had more chances in the second period with Stewart Murdoch blasting over from the edge of the box and seeing another drive charged down by Conrad Balatoni.

The corner it won almost brought about several goals as Andy Haworth headed on the line and both Jonny Flynn and Darren Dods had shots blocked.

Late on both Lyle Taylor and Kieran Duffie had chances to score but again Thistle throwing bodies infront of the shots to take the sting out of the strikes before Scott Fox was ever called into action.

He did have to fly across his goalmouth with two minutes to go though as Dods steered a header inches wide of the top corner.

Though the goals weren’t at The Falkirk Stadium – there were plenty in the matches involving the district’s other two senior teams.

East Stirlingshire were crushed 5-2 at Annan while Stenhousemuir were shocked 7-2 at Brechin where Brown Ferguson was sent off.
