Almost 700 youngsters from the district’s primary schools battled it out over the course at Stirling Road on Wednesday.

Caroline Lawless, one of the organisers from Falkirk Victoria Harriers athletics club, told The Falkirk Herald: “We started the league at the first match with 800 pupils taking part, second match 750 and final match last Wednesday 670 from 32 schools.

“The schools are all very grateful to the club for continuing to provide this opportunity to the pupils, as for many it is their only experience of cross country running.”

This season, the league managed to secure sponsorship from Network Rail.
