FALKIRK Rugby Club should return to action this weekend for the first time in six weeks.
It’s been a long lay-off for the Sunnysiders, whose last competitive match was against Jed-Forest on November 20.
If the comparatively mild temperatures continue for the rest of the week then Falkirk will host Musselburgh on Saturday, with a kick-off time of 2 p.m.
Speaking to Heraldsport, Headcoach Bob Wyllie said it was the perfect fixture for the team after a long spell without a game.
He added: “I’ve told the lads that this is not a must-win fixture.
“Musselburgh are a decent side. We beat them convincingly at their patch last season, but the return fixture proved very difficult.
“They are a side who will continue to play for a full 80 minutes. They won’t just give-up if the game is running away from them.
“For that reason it’s the perfect game for us before the league matches resume.”
The Falkirk first XV got together for their squad training session of the new year on Tuesday.
The players focused on speed, endurance and general fitness.
Bob added that it would soon become clear which players had been looking after themselves during the festive season.
He said: “Most of the older players know that you can’t just take three weeks off and sit and watch films on the TV. It will soon catch up with you.
“Some of the younger ones might have been skipping the weights.
“I guarantee a few of the lads will be throwing up during training!”
