Footballers from Northern Ireland took the national Boys’ Brigade five-a-side trophy back across the water from Grangemouth.

It was Scotland’s turn to organise the event and the sports complex in Abbots’ Road played host to the tournament on Saturday which featured Scottish representatives from the 2nd Gourock company and 1st Greenock, while being organised by Falkirk and district battalion.

However it was the players from 1st Greenisland who took the trophy, presented by Falkirk FC’s former manager Alex Totten.

Donald Blair, BB Leader of 1st Greenisland, said: “This has been the highlight of my BB Career. The organisation of this tournament was first class and I want to thank Falkirk and District for all they did to make it a memorable day for the boys and parents who travelled to support.

“The standard of football and behaviour was outstanding throughout. It was convincing win – bring on The Euros!”

The players visited the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel and were hosted by Provost Pat Reid at the Abbotsinch Hotel.
