A smoke bomb was lobbed onto the pitch following Falkirk’s equaliser at Links Park, Montrose on Saturday.

Dark blue smoke billowed from the device which landed in the penalty area of Falkirk’s defensive end - closest to the area of the ground occupied by the away supporters.

Bairns goalkeeper Jamie Macdonald had to vacate his goalmouth as the cloud enveloped the pitch.

Ref John Beaton delayed the restart following Blair Alston’s penalty equaliser and stewards let the canister empty before removing it from the pitch.

The object thrown was not of the same type which damaged Falkirk’s pitch last season in the match with Rangers. That day a flare was thrown onto the artificial surface which left scorch-marks on the pitch.

Falkirk went on to win 3-1 with goals from Alston, Alex Cooper and Scott Shepherd.
