Falkirk’s new strips go on sale to season ticket holders this Thursday morning, but two have already been snapped up – for a price in excess of £3500.

The first jerseys were auctioned at the club’s gala awards dinner on Monday night with proceeds split between Strathcarron Hospice, and the fundraising campaign to bring club media stalwart Gordon McFarlane home from hospital.

Roger Habberfield, of Street Lighting Supplies, got his hands on the home shirt with a top bid of £2000 which will be donated to the fund to alter the McFarlane family home enabling 61-year-old Gordon to finally leave hospital following the severe stroke he suffered last July.

The away shirt raised £1500 from Gordon Dunne for club charity partners Strathcarron Hospice.

Now, Haberfield has donated the shirt again and put it back up for auction via Sisters Boutique. Lauren Ferguson, despite numerous bids, was unsuccessful in the auction but is co-ordinating the second auction for the first shirt in circulation which will be signed and framed to raise more money for the fund.

Gordon’s daughter Laura, who attended with her brother Colin, mum Linda as well as Gordon himself, told The Falkirk Herald: “The night was a great success for our fundraising campaign, unfortunately my dad took unwell during the event and had to return to the hospital with my mum missing the auction.

“But it was an honour for my brother and I to witness such a great atmosphere. We didn’t think we could ever raise £2000 from it.

“My family and I would just like to thank Roger for his generous bid and to everyone who participated.

“My dad was over the moon when we told him on Tuesday.”

Kieran Koszary, the club’s commercial manager: “We were delighted to use the new strip launch at our Gala Awards to raise funds for two causes very close to the heart of everyone in the Falkirk Family and thank Roger and Gordon for their support as ever”.

The shirts will be worn in Sunday’s shoot-out with Morton at 12.30pm where every goal for the Bairns counts.

Strips will go on general release tomorrow (Friday).
