Influential football crowds are often called the 12th man – at Falkirk they’ve taken that literally and the fans are going to help SIGN an extra player for the team each January.

An ambitious fans group will launch a membership scheme called ‘Bairns4Life’ later this month with the aim of handing the Falkirk manager funds for reinforcements in every winter transfer window.

It’s planned for an on-going monthly membership fee of £10, fans will be entered into 12 £1000 draws per year, and the remainder will be stock-piled to fund signings – of the manager’s choosing – at the turn of every year. Funds will be ring-fenced by agreement with the club only to be used by the Bairns boss for new recruits.

A minimum sign-up of 600 supporters could swell the transfer kitty by more than £50,000 this winter, with a phased approach hoping to top £100,000 come January.

The scheme will also give big match ticket priority benefits to members, behind season ticket holders but ahead of public sales, and the club have also supported the fans-led initiative by offering 12 money-can’t-buy prizes and experiences for members’ draws.

A spokesman for Bairns forLife said: “The club is being run well but we’re stuck in this second tier with less prize money and less TV money. This is to give Falkirk an impact every January, guaranteed.”

The scheme will be explained in greater detail at the launch tonight (Wednesday, August 16) at 7.30pm in Falkirk Town Hall.

Singer Ross Fairweather will also perform and all fans are encouraged to attend.
