Falkirk’s match with Queen of the South was abandoned after 26 minutes, and Stenhousemuir’s televised match with Rangers has been postponed.

Miserable weather conditions around the country saw the nearby Annan v Queen’s Park match called off and Falkirk’s game lasted less than half an hour along the road in Dumfries.

Queen of the South goalkeeper Zander Clark’s kick-outs were struggling to clear 25 yards and on the slicked plastic surface Brines decided to call proceedings to a halt after a discussion with both managers.

Gary Holt said: “I appreciate Iain trying to get the match played but we want to play football and people want to see a game of football not when people are getting kicked trying to bring the ball down or falling over.”

Travel was difficult for the 200 or so visiting Bairns as a fallen tree on the main A701 route to Dumfries closed the road.
