Falkirk chairman Martin Ritchie has taken his first steps to fulfilling an AGM promise of strengthening the club’s board of directors by appointing a former Labour MP.
Doug Henderson, a life-long Bairns supporter and season-ticket holder, has joined the board with immediate effect.
The former MP for Newcastle is known for his political and business expertise, something that Falkirk are hoping will be of great benefit to them as the club formulates an economic plan for its future.
The 64-year-old grew up in Markinch but regularly travelled to watch Falkirk games from the late 1950s onwards. He served as an MP from 1987-2010, holding several ministerial posts in that time.
Chairman Martin Ritchie said: “At the club’s AGM, I made it clear we intended to strengthen the board. The appointment of someone with Doug’s credentials shows that we are committed to addressing some of the fundamental business issues which face the club, and others like us”.
An interview with Mr Henderson will feature in this Thursday’s edition of The Falkirk Herald.
