Aaron Muirhead made his full Falkirk debut on Saturday - a positive step in a frustrating season

The defender - known by teammates as Aero - has had a difficult year after finding himself on the fringes at Partick Thistle and then on the Bairns treatment table.

But he’s already put the past behind him. “It’s not about where you start, it’s about where you finish,” he said.

“It was only my third training session and I blocked a shot and hurt my knee. It was unfortunate, but I’ve put it behind me and I’m focussed on being positive for the rest of the season.”

But the defender has regained full fitness and played at right-back during the win over Raith Rovers, adding to the three minutes of Scottish Cup football he enjoyed at Queen of the South last month.

“I’m definitely pleased to make my full debut, it’s been a while since I joined the club and I’ve been itching to try and make my mark. I’m happy with my performance and with the three points too.

“There were a few tackles going in, but that’s part and parcel of this stage of the season. There’s a lot to play for and teams and players are right up for it so you come to expect it, I really enjoyed it.

“It doesn’t matter how you play at this stage of the season, it’s about winning games and taking as many points as possible.

With the prospect of two Hampden trips coming up, Muirhead has timed his return just right.

“I want to be involved in the big games coming up, and hopefully I did enough to stay in the team,” he added.

“We’ve got a great end to the season. Hopefully we can make the final of the Scottish Cup and progress in the play-offs and that would be a perfect ending.”
