Peter Houston is disappointed Michael McGovern has left Falkirk with a goalkeeping vacancy.

The new Bairns boss has to prioritise a goalkeeper after his defection to Hamilton Academicals this week, but it’s not the only thing at the top of his to-do list.

As it stands, assistant Dale Brooks will remain with the Bairns and will hold meetings with Houston in coming weeks. However Houston has sounded out an additional first-team coach who will double as a player to add to the dug-out team.

Houston though must also find McGovern’s replacement and he’s disappointed to lose him.

“I’ve worked with Michael before,” he told The Falkirk Herald, “obviously I’m disappointed to lose him this week and not have had the chance to speak with him.

“He is a very good goalkeeper and was very popular here and I’d have liked to speak to him before he made the move - I’m not saying I’d have persuaded him to stay but you never know.

“Obviously, now a goalkeeper will be one of the first jobs.”

An announcement is not expected on the new coach for around a fortnight.
