Falkirk are top of the Championship table this evening after a comprehensive 2-0 win over 10-man Dundee.

Conor McGrandles and Rory Loy grabbed the goals in what was a strong all-round performance from Gary Holt’s side.

Falkirk could have scored more given the number of chances they created against a Dens Park team that played the entire second half with 10 men after Kyle Letheren was ordered off.

The Dundee goalkeeper was red carded on the stroke of half time after referee Bobby Madden judged him to have brought down the on-rushing Loy - a decision that enraged the away side.

John Brown’s team - which included debuts for former Rangers player Stephen Hughes and ex Hearts forward Christian Nade - had started brightly but the first chance of the game fell to Falkirk after seven minutes. A Kieran Duffie cross found Blair Alston, who hit a decent strike only to see Letheren pull off a terrific save low to his right.

Falkirk went on to dominate the rest of the first half and created a number of chances, but could only make one of them count.

Loy blazed over after ten minutes and Mark Millar was thrawrted by Letheren after racing clear in the penatly area.

The opening goal came after 16 minutes courtesy of Conor McGrandles. A powerful run from Phil Roberts produced a low cross into the box, which the Falkirk midfielder collected and wasted no time in drilling a shot in off the post past Letheren.

Dundee were stuggling to impose themselves on the game and the Bairns should have went two goals clear when Loy stepped up to take his penalty, but his weak effort was well blocked by substitute goalkeeper Dan Twardzik.

Falkirk continued to press in the second half as Dundee lsat back and attempted to frustrate their hosts.

The decisive second goal came 17 minutes from the end when another good cross from Phil Roberts was rolled home by Loy.

The result means Falkirk leapfrog Dundee to go top of the Championship table for the first time this season.
