Jade Nimmo, Hallglen’s long jumper, is now third in the Scottish record books.

The 20-year-old is currently on a scholarship at Western Kentucky University and her jump this week landed her in the top three female Scottish long jumpers.

The Sale Harrier leapt over six metres 24 centimetres at the Sunbelt Conference indoor championships across the pond.

Her coach, scottishathletics’ Darren Ritchie said: “Jade’s now third on the all-time list for Scottish women indoors and that’s great for her.

“We were hoping she would get to between 6.20m and 6.30m this season and towards 6.45 outdoors.

“She’s only 20 and she is adjusting to a new life in America at the moment but firmly focusing on preparation for the European under-23 Championships in 2013 and the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

‘We now have two women jumping over six metres with Lisa Ferguson having done a six metre personal best recently at the Scottish Senior Championships.

“It is very encouraging.’

Jax Thoirs, who was in Falkirk this week to visit Maddiston primary school pupils, also equalled his British Junior pole vault record.
