Pressley’s name still linked to Clarets
Falkirk manager Steven Pressley’s name refuses to go away from the vacant manager’s job at Burnley.
Elvis shot from 66/1 with bookmakers to 2/1 joint favourite with some firms on Monday provoking the speculation which has come to the attention of the Falkirk hierarchy. The Bairns’ boss was quoted as a potential candidate in Lancashire press reports last week.
Several sources in Scotland told The Falkirk Herald yesterday that a move was ‘unlikely’, yet Pressley’s name is one of four that continues to circulate in Lancashire.
Falkirk officials confirmed last night that no contact had been made between the clubs, and Pressley is currently in the early months of a three-year contract penned at the end of last season.
General manager David White said: “There has been nothing officially received however, we are now aware of the speculation.
“In a way we are not surprised to see Steven linked with other clubs after the work he has done at the club.
“Though the short-term results before Saturday’s win at Dumbarton were not quite what we would have hoped for, under the manager the club’s long-term strategy is very much on track.”
The Falkirk boss has been at Westfield for over two and a half years, and was not believed to be amongst the tranche of candidates interviewed by the Championship outfit over the weekend - days when he was on Bairns duty with games at Dumbarton and Raith Rovers.
And he was back on the training ground at Stirling University this week preparing for Saturday’s match with Partick Thistle and also took in last night’s 3-0 victory for Falkirk under-20s against Dundee.
But after starting at 66/1 for the job, he remains second favourite with many bookmakers behind Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton, though his price continues to fluctuate with many names – including Sean Dyche, Warren Joyce and Pressley’s old Scotland team-mate Graham Alexander - linked to the Turf Moor job created by Eddie Howe’s return to Bournemouth.
