Falkirk’s faint hopes of retaining their star striker ended today.

Farid El Alagui has penned a deal with English League One outfit Brentford.

After hitting 28 goals in a stunning season with Falkirk his one-year deal expired leaving him open to offers.

Hibernian, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone were known to have been keen on the striker, with reports also linking him with Aberdeen,.

But he has settled on a move to former Manchester City striker Uwe Rosler’s side - part of his career plan all along.

The French-Moroccan signed for Falkirk hoping to progress from the Bairns to play football in England.

He wowed Steven Pressley as soon as he arrived, hitting the net in his first trial at Grangemouth Stadium against Dundee United (above).

That, and a quirky coin-kissing celebration, endeared him to the Bairns fans who held out hope he would return to the Navy Blue for another crack at Scotland.

However all hopes ended last night when El Alagui came through his medical with the Bees and signed on at Griffin Park today and Rosler revealed he had been chasing the striker for more than three months.

Falkirk knocked back several bids from Crawley Town for El Alagui in January.

The Falkirk Herald understands Steven Pressley is running the rule over a 22-year-old striker this week.
